Governor Bruce Rauner has announced a proposal for a narrow reinstatement of the death penalty in Illinois.
Under the governor’s proposal, capital punishment would be available in cases involving mass murderers and those convicted of killing a police officer.
The proposal is part of an amendatory of legislation that expands the 72 hour waiting period to buy a gun.
Rauner says he supports a 72 hour waiting period for all firearms and authorizing restraining orders for taking away guns from dangerous individuals.
