Everyone was able to walk away relatively unharmed when three tractor-trailer trucks collided in a fiery crash on I-57.

It happened just before 1:30 Tuesday afternoon near mile marker 68. That’s between West Frankfort and Benton.

According to a preliminary crash report, Brandon Johnson, Jeffrey Anglin, and Terry Estes were all driving in the northbound lane when Johnson slowed down due to traffic ahead.

Anglin, following behind, crashed into the rear of Johnson’s truck. The impact caused Anglin’s semi to burst into flames.

Estes, the driver of the third truck, was not able to stop in time and crashed into rear of Anglin’s truck. That impact caused extensive damage, but no fire.

All northbound lanes of I-57 were shut down for about an hour while crews put out the fire and cleaned up the scene.

Anglin and Estes suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were each also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Johnson was not injured or charged.
