A lawsuit has been filed against the Joppa-Maple Grove Unit 38 School District.

The lawsuit filed by taxpayers claims that the school district has been raising the property taxes it collects by more than the law allows.

Plaintiffs allege that citizens of the school district have paid at least $1.25 million dollars more in property taxes than they should have and that the problem dates back to at least 2008.

A hearing in the case is set for Friday.
