State police have released more information in two of those three deadly crashes that happened on Southern Illinois interstates on Sunday.
The name of an 18 year old woman killed in a crash in Jefferson County has been released. She was Emma Casserotti of Mount Vernon. State Troopers say the Jeep Casserotti was driving was hit head on by 25 year old Cole Stevens of Energy, who had driven across the median.
Authorities say charges are pending review in that crash.
And the identities of two people killed in the crash on I-57 near Exit 24 in Union County have also been released.
State Troopers say 49 year old Tonya Mayo of Fort Smith Arkansas and an 8 year old child were killed when the Mustang Mayo was driving crossed the median and hit a semi head-on. State Police say no charges will be filed in that crash.
Both of those crashes were caused by drivers cross the interstate median. The Illinois Department of Transportation is installing more cable median barriers this summer – including a project that will run them from Marion to Johnston City on I-57.
The barriers are designed to prevent median crossover crashes.
