Democrats in the Illinois Senate are grilling members of Gov Rauner’s administration over money spent moving old state documents to a new location.

Andy Manar questioned Corrections Department Director John Baldwin during an appropriations committee hearing Wednesday.

According to Manar, Human Services records were being kept in a building at the former Dwight Correctional Center. That building was in need of extensive roof repairs, but Manar says, there are plenty of other vacant state owned buildings that could have been used.

Instead though, those documents are being kept in a Springfield warehouse the state has leased for 2.4 million dollars.

Baldwin said he was unaware of the move.

Neither Baldwin’s nor Rauner’s spokeswomen had further comment.
