Flooding is still the word of the day as residents and government officials work to deal with the aftermath.
Franklin County Chairman Randall Crocker declared a state of disaster in his county yesterday because of flood damage at several roads, the flooding of homes and other key area.
County leaders are planning a damage assessment this week.
In Johnston City, Mayor Jim Mitchell plans to ask the state for help in finding a possible blockage in Lake Creek. City officials say the creek backed up like it never has before and several residents had to be rescued by boat as the waters rose.
In Makanda, railroad crews have been working since Saturday – when the heavy rain caused severe damage to more than 300 feet of track near the Makanda Road crossing. The tracks had to be shut down over the weekend and crews will be working there throughout the week.
Many roads throughout the area continue to be closed because of flood waters or flood damage.
