Carbondale city leaders will discuss the idea of a chronic nuisance ordinance at a city council meeting tonight.

The ordinance would allow the city to fine the owners of rental properties if multiple instances of illegal activity are taking place in the home. Officials say the idea is to work with landlords to address problem tenants.

The idea grew out of public meetings after the shooting death of Carbondale Musician Tim Beatty earlier this year.
