SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says he’ll issue an executive order aimed at strengthening ethics in state government.

Rauner took the oath of office Monday. In his inaugural speech he said he’ll take action Tuesday to “improve ethics and accountability in the executive branch of state government.” He hasn’t yet detailed what his executive order will entail.

The Republican from Winnetka says Illinois has trouble competing with neighboring states because of high taxes, overregulation of business and its history of ethics problems.

He says Tuesday’s action and others that will follow will “focus on regaining our state’s good name and reputation.”
