Alexander County State’s Attorney Jeffery Farris has been appointed to the position of Resident Circuit Judge in Illinois’ First Judicial Circuit.

Farris was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Stephen Spomer in November, and the appointment will take effect January 16th, and will finish on December 5, 2016.

Farris was first elected as State’s Attorney in Alexander County in 1992, and had previously served as a public defender in Pulaski County, as well as practicing law on his own.

In a news release, Farris said he is grateful for the appointment.
