BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois-based Air Mobility Command has led 10 missions to Africa in support of a multinational operation aiming to contain the spread of Ebola.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports Scott Air Force Base is participating in Operation United Assistance by sending supplies and troops to West African countries. The command has placed contingency response teams from the Kentucky Air National Guard and a New Jersey-based military facility in support of the U.S. mission.

AMC says Scott Air Base hasn’t deployed any of its personnel to West Africa so far.

Seventeen 100-bed hospitals will be set up in Liberia later this month by 1,400 soldiers from Kentucky’s Fort Campbell and other Army divisions. The soldiers will be joined by 128 workers from federal agencies.

About 3,000 U.S. troops are expected to be deployed to Africa this fall.
