CHICAGO (AP) — President Barack Obama has outlined a plan for growing the U.S. economy that mirrors Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn’s strategy for Illinois.
Obama said Thursday that his speech at Northwestern University in Evanston wasn’t political and he wasn’t going to tell people who to vote for but it’s “kind of implied.”
Quinn faces a tough challenge from Republican businessman Bruce Rauner.
Obama, Quinn and other Democrats support policies such as raising the minimum wage. They say raising the wage will grow the economy by putting more money in working people’s pockets.
Rauner supports an increase only if it’s accompanied by pro-business reforms, so companies can afford higher payroll and it doesn’t lead to job losses.
Obama also attended a $50,000-a person fundraiser for Quinn earlier Thursday.
