Southbound traffic through Jefferson and Franklin counties was snarled for more than seven hours yesterday after a fatal crash on the interstate. It happened just before 9 yesterday morning on I-57 near the Ina exit.

State Police say three semis were involved in the crash – which happened when two of the vehicles slowed to avoid an earlier accident. One truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

All southbound traffic was routed to Highway 37 practically all day as authorities investigated and cleaned up the crash and a hazmat spill that resulted from it.
