AVA, Ill. (WJPF) — Three people were injured Sunday in a DUI-related crash in Jackson County.

It happened at about 3:00 a.m. on Highway 4, near the intersection of Sparrow Road, west of Ava.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Alice Pence, 32, of Murphysboro had her black SUV positioned perpendicular to the road, blocking both lanes. Jacob Hoover, 19, of Steeleville was traveling westbound in a small car. Hoover was unable to see the SUV in time to stop and hit the vehicle.

Pence and Hoover were taken to local hospitals. A passenger in Hoover’s was airlifted from the scene.

Alice Pence received a DUI and was cited for improper lane usage.
