Last year, Kegan Shields tore up the gridiron as a freshman for the Murphysboro Red Devils.  He gained 864 yards (110 attempts) on the ground with 12 touchdowns and caught another 168 receiving yards (7 catches) with two touchdowns.

Sources indicate this past spring, Shields went 10 miles west across the county and  transferred to Carbondale Community High School.  That claim was backed up earlier this week when Shields popped on the Illini Inquirer as a running back they’ve now got their eye on after his performance at a Univeristy of Illinois football camp.  In the report, Shields was listed as a “Class of 2029 Carbondale running back.”

Shields joins senior quarterback Davin Wooley and junior tackle Joe Frierdich, the latter of whom has received 14 Power 4 scholarship offers, to form one of the more explosive offenses in Southern Illinois.

Shields and the Terriers open the football season against his former team, the Murphysboro Red Devils, on Friday August 21st.
