GALLATIN COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — A Herrin woman was killed in an ATV accident Friday in Gallatin County.

It happened around 5:20 p.m. in the Pounds Hollow Recreation Area. Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.

State Police say 30-year-old Derrick Jackson of Elizabethtown drove onto the shoulder then over corrected, causing him to lose control of the Polaris side-b-side. Jackson then drove across the road, hit a tree, and drove off a steep embankment.

23-year-old Hanna McCree was pronounced dead at the scene. Derrick Jackson was taken to a local hospital for the treatment of his injuries. Neither were wearing a seatbelt.

Jackson was also ticketed for Driving Under the Influence
