CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — One person is in custody after a police chase that closed Route 13 east of Carbondale Sunday afternoon.

According to Wiliamson County Sheriff Bennie Vick, at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday, Sheriff’s Deputies and an officer from the US Fish and Wildlife Service attempted to take Jim Dodd into custody.

Police knew Dodd had an active felony warrant for his arrest and that he was a suspect in an armed home invasion that happened Friday in Herrin.

When Dodd saw police, he drove off, leading officers on a chase that ended when he crashed his vehicle into a concrete construction barrier on the east edge of Carbondale.

After the crash, Dodd refused to exit the vehicle. After about 20 minutes, police began to believe that Dodd was hurting himself. He was then removed from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital.

He’s now facing charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Threatening a Public Official, Aggravated Fleeing or Eluding, and Resisting a Peace Officer. He’s also facing an unrelated charge of Threatening a Public Official.
