SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has set up an online guide to answer consumers’ questions about recycling.

IEPA Director Alec Messina announced the Recycle Illinois webpage Thursday as part of America Recycles Day .

It answers typical curbside recycling questions. It also identifies appropriate places to take recyclables that cannot be collected in most curbside recycling programs in Illinois.

Messina says that recycling “is one of the easiest ways to improve our environment.” He says the online tool is mean to help residents recycle properly. Proper procedures are more important since China last year banned the import of recyclables with more than minimal contamination.

IEPA conducted a statewide survey of county recycling coordinators last year to identify the types of items they recycle and what types of collections are available.
