A Herrin woman has been arrested on animal cruelty charges.

According to a press release from the Herrin Police Department, 39-year-old Sandra Cain was taken into custody over the weekend.

On Saturday, Police were called to the 600 block of South 12th Street on an animal cruelty complaint. It had been reported that dead dog was found in the backyard of a home.

With the assistance of neighbors, police were able to locate Cain, the owner. She was cited with aggravated animal cruelty and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
