SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois House is considering a bill that would make it easier for people to find out why they were put up for adoption and what types of health issues they may have inherited from their biological parents.

The bill’s sponsor, Chicago Democratic Rep. Sara Feigenholtz, says having this information would help give peace of mind to many adult adoptees.

The House Adoption Reform committee advanced the bill last month. The full House will vote on the measure this week.

A leader at the Cook County agency that investigates adoptions says the measure is another step toward getting adoptees the information they desperately desire.
