CHICAGO (AP) – State Senator Napoleon Harris says he’s jumping into the 2016 race for U.S. Senate.

The Democrat says he’ll formally announce Tuesday he’s challenging U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth and former Chicago Urban League CEO Andrea Zopp in the March primary.

The winner will take on U.S. Senator Mark Kirk in what is expected to be one of the most competitive 2016 Senate races.

Harris is a businessman and former professional football player who has served in the IL Senate since 2013.

He briefly ran to replace ex-Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. after Jackson’s 2012 resignation but Harris dropped out of the race before Election Day.
