A caseworker for the Illinois Department of Human Services has been arraigned on charges of theft and official misconduct, for allegedly stealing over $114,000 of taxpayer money.

50-year old Mary Hurst of Steeleville pleaded not guilty yesterday in Randolph County Court. She is charged with one count of theft of government monies over $100,000, five counts of wire fraud, and six counts of official misconduct.

Hurst allegedly created fictitious clients in order to give herself LINK cards and made withdrawals using those LINK cards between 2012 and 2015, while working at the Randolph County Family Community Resource Center.
