COULTERVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A preliminary federal report shows a miner who died in southern Illinois last month was examining seals in a Coulterville mine when he died.

An initial report filed by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration says Glen A. Campbell was driving a two-seat tram or mantrip, which his body was found near. The 59-year-old from Sparta died May 31 at Peabody Energy’s Gateway Mine in Randolph County.

The report says Campbell had 32 years of experience in mining and nine years at Gateway Mine.

Randolph County coroner Randy Dudenbostel performed an autopsy but didn’t determine a cause of Campbell’s death. Dubenbostel did say that Campbell suffered “some trauma.”
