The Illinois State Police says the man was driving his pickup truck south along Illinois 37 on Wednesday evening when it traveled into the northbound lane and collided with a 23-year-old Marion man’s vehicle.

The Associated Press reports the pickup’s driver was taken to a local hospital, where he later died of his injuries. His identity hasn’t been released pending notification of family members.

The other driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.

The State Police says both vehicles were badly damaged in the crash, which was allegedly caused by alcohol or impaired driving.

The highway was closed for about three hours while authorities investigated but has since re-opened.
