Nashville, Ill. – Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier is filing a complaint with the state board of elections over what his campaign calls illegal disbursements.

Karmeier campaign manager Ron Deedrick says the group “Campaign for 2016” violated campaign finance laws twice when they contributed money to the Williamson County Democratic Central Committee and the Franklin County Democratic Organization.

State records show “Campaign for 2016” disbursed $5,000 to Williamson County Democrats and $3,000 to Franklin County Democrats for “campaign work.” The disclosures were filed Oct. 27. Find out more here.

“Campaign for 2016” has spent over $1 million on advertisements against Karmeier in the past two weeks. Karmeier, a Republican, needs 60-percent approval from voters next week to retain his seat on the Illinois Supreme Court.
