A former Illinois State Trooper who pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in a crash in 2007 is trying to get his license back for the fifth time.

Matt Mitchell says he has a promise of employment from a company in Centralia, but needs his license to take the job. He spoke before a hearing in Mt. Vernon yesterday and offered an apology to the family of Kelli and Jessica Uhl.

The two died in a crash on Interstate 64 in November of 2007. Prosecutors said Mitchell was driving around 120 miles per hour, talking on his cell phone and using his lap top when he crossed the center line and struck the oncoming vehicle.

Secretary Of State Jesse White says he has personally blocked Mitchell’s previous attempts to get his license back. His office has 90 days to issue a verdict.
