OAK PARK, Ill. (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn says the head of the Illinois Department of Transportation resigned voluntarily.

Quinn told reporters in suburban Chicago on Tuesday that he accepted Ann Schneider’s resignation and he’s appointed someone new who will carry out the “responsibilities of the job with excellence.”

Quinn announced Monday that he had appointed Erica Borggren to the post. She is the director of the IllinoisDepartment of Veterans Affairs.

Quinn would not discuss in detail the circumstances of Schneider leaving.

Schneider’s departure comes after a federal complaint raised questions about patronage hiring in the Department of Transportation.
