Carbondale city staff will draw up an ordinance allowing the archery hunting of white-tailed deer at Cedar Lake property owned by the city.

Deer Hunting Archery season is October 1 through the third week of January, and officials are concerned about the high number of deer in the area.

Currently, you’re only allowed to hunt white-tail deer on the south section of the lake, which is owned by the United States Forest Service. That kind of hunting is prohibited on the northern part of the property that is owned by the city.

City Manager Kevin Baity says an ordinance could be voted on as early as July 15.
