CHICAGO (AP) — Jurors at Illinois state Rep. Derrick Smith’s bribery trial are set to resume deliberations.

The panelists return to a jury room at U.S. District Court in Chicago on Tuesday to start going through the evidence again.

They deliberated for only a few hours Monday. They spent most of the day listening to closing arguments from both sides.

Smith is a 50-year-old Chicago Democrat who is accused of taking a $7,000 bribe from a purported day care operator seeking a state grant. It all turned out to be part of an elaborate FBI sting.

Prosecutors say tape recordings of Smith made by a campaign worker-turned-informant prove the bribery charge. The defense says that the informant “set up” Smith and the legislator never committed a crime.
