A rural Union County woman was killed Sunday morning as she walked along US 51. 65 year old Carole Brown was standing on the side of the road when a south bound car driven by a 20 year old Chicago Heights man struck her at about 12:50 am.
Officials say she had suffered from mental illness and was thought to be disoriented. Brown was a former Egyptian school district elementary school teacher who lived in rural Dongola.
She lived close to where the accident had occurred.
The incident is being considered an accident so no citations were given out.
