A standoff in Marion of more than four hours between police and Thomas Ward began about 3 yesterday afternoon and ended when a highly intoxicated Ward stepped out onto his porch
Marion police were called to home at 1712 W. Dewey St. yesterday afternoon officers were informed that Ward, 55, was suicidal, intoxicated and had fired at least one shotgun round into the air.
Marion officers were joined by county, federal and state law enforcement tactical teams who surrounded the home and pulled a large armored vehicle onto Wards front yard and began periodically blasting loud noises at the residence. Then state police negotiator began talking to Ward over a loudspeaker.
About 7:15 p.m., Ward opened the screen door at the front of his residence and stepped onto the porch. Ward eventually came far enough onto the porch for officers to subdued him
No one was injured in the standoff, charges will be determined by Williamson County State's Attorney Charles Garnati.
