Nearly a city block burned early Sunday morning in Johnston City The fire started about 2 a.m. in the easternmost of four buildings on the 200 block of East Broadway.
T he Fire was contained by 5am with the assistants of units from West Frankfort, Marion, Herrin and Williamson County Fire Protection District as well numorous tanker trucks.
Officials say a specific corner of the unoccupied building in question appears to have has been targeted by an arsonist, and law enforcement does have a suspect or suspects in mind although no arrests have been made at this time.
Of the four buildings involved , one was the vacant building where the fire is thought to have been started, H&R Block, a second empty building, and a tavern called The Pub.
All but the Pub were a total loss, although it sustained major damage.
The investigation continues.
