Johnston County Schools Announce Major Cuts

Johnston County Schools are facing several cuts next year.

The School Board announced the district will eliminate art and consumer science from the curriculum and lay off two teachers while leaving four other spots open. Golf will be dropped as a school sport and a $25 fee for all other sports will be instituted.

Members of the board say they are facing a $900,000 budget shortfall. The board voted unanimously to make the cuts.
