Marion Jr. High Students Participate In App Contest
A team of seventh graders in Marion is waiting to learn if their proposed app to help people find local volunteer opportunities will be named the best idea of its kind in the Midwest.
The Marion Jr. High School team has already won the best-in-state contest for the original device application proposal. If the students win the Midwest competition this month they win $5,000 for the school and move onto the national round and a chance to win $15,000.
The Verizon Foundation and the Technology Student Association created the competition to encourage students to use technology to tackle local social issues.
To win the state contest, the team wrote an essay and produced a video on YouTube.
