Propane Emergency Declared In Illinois

Illinois' propane community is hailing the governor’s declaration of an energy emergency. This comes as a triple-barreled demand – pipeline problems, grain-drying from a wet harvest, and the current cold snap – overwhelms supply.

“We put anywhere between a 30 and a 70 percent increase on our infrastructure,” says John Tibbs, director of education and safety for the Illinois Propane Gas Association. “There's no way you can plan for that.”

The regulations suspended during the emergency have to do with the number of hours a driver can be on the road and the sort of license a driver needs to transport propane between states, all in the service of bringing more LP gas into Illinois.
