Carbondale Mayor Resigns For Job In Arizona

Carbondale Mayor Joel Fritzler says he's stepping down next month to take a job at Northern Arizona University.

Joel Fritzler, an employee of Southern Illinois University, announced his resignation in a statement Tuesday. He says it was a pleasure and honor to serve the people of Carbondale.

Fritzler was elected mayor of Carbondale in April 2011 after serving six years on the Carbondale City Council.

City council will select an interim mayor off the current council on January 21. The interim mayor will then nominate someone to fill the vacant seat on the council.
