Harrisburg School Superintendent Resigns



THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS IN HARRISBURG IS STEPPING DOWN.

DENNIS SMITH HANDED IN HIS LETTER OF RESIGNATION AT TUESDAY NIGHT’S SCHOOL BOARD MEETING. HIS CONTRACT RAN UNTIL 2015 BUT THE RESIGNATION WILL TAKE EFFECT AT THE START OF THE NEW YEAR.

SMITH’S OFFICE SAYS THE RESIGNATION IS BECAUSE OF RECENT CHANGES ON THE SCHOOL BOARD AND IRRECONCIALABLE DIFFERENCES IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SCHOOL.

FOUR MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL BOARD HAVE LEFT SINCE APRIL. SMITH WILL RECEIVE A $100,000 SEVERANCE PACKAGE.
