Primary Election Filing Period Wraps Up

More than 500 candidates who want their names on the 2014 ballot during Illinois' primary election have filed their petitions with the state.

The bulk of those seeking office filed papers on the first day, which was Nov. 25. The Illinois State Board of Elections website says 380 filed that day. Monday was the last day to submit petitions. That's when 129 candidates did so.

Candidates and incumbents traditionally compete for the first and last spots on the ballot.

Those who've filed for the March primary include gubernatorial hopefuls and candidates vying for Congress, judgeships and the state Legislature.
