Lawmakers Consider Taxing Satellite TV

The idea of a tax on satellite TV is alive again in Illinois.
The money from the tax would be used to offset tax incentives lawmakers want to give to three companies considering moves into or out of Illinois.
Chemical company Univar is considering moving from Redmond, Washington to Downers Grove.
Archer Daniels Midland is moving its corporate headquarters out of Decatur and is considering Chicago or out of state destinations.
And the merged Office Max-Office Depot will land in either Office Max’s home in Naperville or Office Depot’s home in Boca Raton, Florida.
Satellite providers argue the proposed tax is a punishment. Lawmakers say it’s about finding a revenue stream to create and save Illinois jobs.
The proposed tax would raise $75 million a year.
