Yesterday marked the beginning of the filing period for the 2014 primary elections.
Some candidates and their representatives camped out at the elections office in Springfield before it opened. And the same scene played out at county clerk’s offices around the state, where county and municipal candidates started filing to run.
The order in which candidates file does affect the order of their names on the ballot.
In Springfield, Governor Pat Quinn filed to run, as did his Democratic challenger Tio Hardiman and Republican challengers Bruce Rauner, Kirk Dillard, Dan Rutherford and Bill Brady.
Republicans Jim Oberweis and Doug Truax filed to run for U.S. Senate against Dick Durbin,
And Republican Mike Bost filed to run for Congress in the 12th district, challenging incumbent Bill Enyart.
