Officials Discuss Jailed Murphysboro Alderman

City Alderman in Murphysboro debated what to do about Alderman Ronald Nolan at their monthly city council meeting Tuesday night.

Nolan has been in the Jackson County Jail since September, when he was arrested on kidnapping and sex abuse charges. Last month, he was accused of trying to break out of jail and injuring two guards.

The city council decided to draft Nolan a letter, but there was some disagreement about what the letter should say.

Alderman Gary McComb said he feels the council should ask Nolan to resign, especially because he is still getting paid for a job he’s unable to perform.

But others on the council said the intent is to ask Nolan if he wants to remain an alderman.

After a vote, the council decided to draft a letter asking Nolan what his desires are toward the alderman job.
