An alderman in Murphysboro accused of sexual assault and kidnapping now faces charges that say he tried to escape from jail.
46-year-old Ronald Nolan is accused of leaving his cell in an “aggressive manner,” without proper authority, breaking one guard’s finger and punching another in the genitals during an incident Oct. 10. He will be in court Nov. 21 for a preliminary hearing on those charges.
Nolan is already accused of kidnapping a 20-year-old woman, driving across two counties and touching her breasts and genitals. His next court appearance for those charges is December 10, with a jury trial scheduled for Dec. 16.
Nolan is expected to hire a new attorney to deal with the new charges, according to a report from the Carbondale Times newspaper.
