A House committee has approved a tax incentive package for a chemical distribution company that is considering moving its headquarters to Illinois.
The House Revenue and Finance Committee voted 8-0 Tuesday in favor of legislation that would provide $5 million in tax breaks for Univar.
The company is based in Redmond, Wash. It's considering moving its headquarters to the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove. In exchange for the incentives, the company would keep 100 jobs in Illinois and add at least 69 jobs.
Rep. John Bradley is chairman of the committee. He says several other incentive packages are "still under consideration." They include up to $24 million in tax breaks for Archer Daniels Midland Company if it keeps its global headquarters in Illinois and a deal for Naperville-based OfficeMax.
