A man is being held on $500,000 bond after authorities accused him of killing his wife.
Thirty-year-old Chauncey Hughes appeared in Alexander County court on Monday. He's charged with five counts of first-degree murder for Friday's shooting death of his wife, 22-year-old Heather Davis. She was found at a home in Cairo.
Hughes asked a judge to appoint an attorney to represent him.
He turned himself in to police Saturday after initially fleeing the scene.
A visitation for Davis is scheduled for Wednesday in Villa Ridge, followed by a funeral on Thursday in Cairo.
Hughes is set to appear in court again on Nov. 26.
