River Museum Opens New Annex

In Jackson County, a museum aimed at preserving the history of Mississippi River towns opened a new addition this weekend.

The annex at the Mississippi River Museum and Interpretive Center in Grand Tower will be used in part for additional exhibition space.

The new facility is designed to look like a riverboat with a pilot house that overlooks the river and a nearby levee.

The museum's new addition is opening with an exhibit about the 1993 flood. It's on loan from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Museum director Jack Knupp is a retired riverboat captain who spent almost 50 years on the Mississippi. He says the exhibits will highlight the importance of the waterway.
