In Saline County, a woman will stand trial in January for allegedly stealing an elderly woman’s identity.
The date was announced at Kimberly Ital’s preliminary hearing yesterday. She’s accused of using the identity of 72-year-old Karen Phelps to pay for several thousands dollars worth of items.
Phelps was under Ital’s care at the time. She suffers from dementia and requires 24-hour care.
Prosecutors say Ital spent money on a truck, a car, her daughter’s tuition at John A. Logan College and bail money for her son. She also charged $40-to-$50,000 to various checks and credit cards.
She remains in jail on $150,000 bond.
