Shutdown Over?

In Washington, a plan could be finalized later today to reopen the government through Jan. 15 and raise the government's borrowing limit until at least mid-February. The plan comes out of discussions between Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and GOP leader Mitch McConnell.

Some House conservatives have questioned details that have come out so far. Economists warn that failure could have serious economic consequences.

SIU President Glenn Poshard is also sounding the alarm if no debt ceiling agreement is reached. He said in a statement to the university that SIU has enough money to survive a delay in federal dollars, but a default on the nation’s credit would hurt the university’s ability to borrow money.
