School Official Bikes For E-Books

A member of the Marion Unit 2 School District Board plans to bike across the state to raise money for new electronic textbooks.

Wayne Tate says he wants the district to switch to Google Chromebooks, an operating system that allows you to read textbooks on a computer.

“We’ve been doing a lot of research, and that's just the way education is going, the way students are going about their daily lives and its a way that seems to have the best opportunities for them to learn," Tate says. "It's also more economically in the long run compared to traditional textbooks.”

Tate says he will bike over 1,000 miles across all of Illinois, starting Saturday morning at 8:30 in Marion and ending in Springfield for the Fall Veto Session in October.

He’s raising money for every mile he completes so the district can afford the switch to e-books.
