Special Prosecutor Looks Into Stolen Gun

In Jackson County, a special prosecutor will now investigate how a police chief’s gun was stolen and used in a murder.
Jackson County State’s Attorney Mike Carr requested the prosecutor because he says he’s too close to the victim of the robbery, Carbondale Police Chief Jody O’Guinn.
O’Guinn’s gun was stolen from his personal vehicle at home in June of 2011 and reported a week later by the police chief. Police say the gun was used in the shooting death of 20-year-old Deaunta Spencer in September 2011.
20-year-old Matthew Jones pleaded guilty to the murder, he is serving a 35-year prison sentence. 21-year-old Jewlious Causey pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen firearm and is serving a six-year sentence.
No one was formally charged with the theft of the gun.
