Term-Limit Proposal To Have Small Impact

A term-limit amendment that proponents want on next year's ballot would end the careers of four legislative leaders, but it wouldn't impact the General Assembly as much.
The measure is being pushed by Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner. It calls for capping legislative term to eight years in an attempt to get rid of "career politicians."
All four legislative leaders including House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno have been in office for more than eight years.
But if the measure were put into place now, nearly 60 percent of the current lawmakers wouldn't be affected because they've been in office for less time.
There are also at least 11 current legislators that have announced they're retiring or not seeking another term.
