Early indications are the Du Quoin Fair may have set a record for attendance.
Fair manager John Rednour Jr. says that despite the temperatures being in the mid- to high 90s, the turnout was good. “It was tough with the temperature, but I tell you what, it’s like a ritual down here for the folks. It’s a family event. And I tell you what, it’s a big part of Southern Illinois,” he said.
The numbers are still being compiled, but Rednour says indications are strong: The Continental Tires picnic saw 7,900 attendees and the labor picnic came in with 5,000 guests.
